March Madness Throwback

We came across this gem the other night while going through some old pictures and videos.  In honor of the NCAA basketball tournament going on right now we thought we'd share this video of Matt playing basketball when he was three and McKenzie providing the commentary and cheerleading.

Matt's birthday trip/McKenzie's choir show

We had such a fun weekend celebrating Matt's birthday. He will be 9 on the 26th but we chose this past weekend to go to Memphis to watch a Grizzlies' basketball game. We  arrived Saturday afternoon, did a little shopping, checked into our hotel, then on to the Side Porch for his early birthday dinner before the game. It was delicious as usual! I overheard one of the waiters telling someone that the night before they served 350 people! That tells you how good the food is. We asked Matt weeks ago what he wanted to do for his birthday and going to eat at the Side Porch and going to the game was what he wanted to do. We had a lot of fun at the game, too. And the Grizzlies won! After the game, we walked across the street to grab a drink at Starbucks, before heading back to our car. McKenzie always loves doing that.

Matt has been wanting a new basketball goal, so we along with all the grandparents bought him a new portable goal. The other one was on an old rusty iron pole that we are takng down. David put the new one together Sunday after we got home and Matt loves it! The boy loves some basketball! He also found a watch on sale at Target with a timer and everything. He is so proud of it and really enjoyed timing us in everything we did this weekend! Ha!

Monday night McKenzie had her choir show. It was titled Friendship and was supposed to have been done back at the end of February but due to the snow had to be rescheduled three times. We finally got to see it  Monday and it was so good. Here are a few pictures and a video of one of the songs the Entertainers performed.

Winter Wonderland

I still can't believe we got 6 inches of snow!   Matt's words described it best, "Mama, it the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!" The kids have enjoyed three days out of school and David's work let him go early the afternoon the snow started and he had a late start the next morning. After supper that night we went for a walk just before it got dark. Everything was so pretty. It was still snowing, too. The last time we got snow like this, McKenzie was 9 and Matt was 4. So, we were due a good snow! It's just about gone, so spring can come now!

I was in Big Lots last weekend and found this pretty forsythia wreath to hang on our front door for early spring. Love how it brightened up my porch.

Easter is right around the corner, so I ordered the kids Easter eggs from Old Tyme Commissary in Jackson. This year, for McKenzie I had them paint an 8th grade graduate bunny. She will have a graduation from middle school in April and they will wear red graduation hats. For Matt, he is really into his Minecraft game, so Diamond Steve it is for his egg.

Here are a few pictures from our winter wonderland. Enjoy!

Upwards Basketball

We enjoyed Matt's last game of the season Friday night. We all hated to see it end!  Matt absolutely loves playing basketball and David enjoys being his coach. I am so thankful that he was able to coach McKenzie's basketball teams and now Matt's. I love that he teaches the players so much about the sport and also about God, too. Matt is so much fun to watch. Here are two videos from last night and also our team picture.

Happy Valentine's Day

Today has been a really nice Valentine's Day.  David took us to Shoney's this morning to eat the breakfast bar and it was great! They also gave me cards which was really sweet! I love my family and the things we get to do together.

I fixed McKenzie and Matt a Valentine basket again this year. McKenzie wanted some makeup and candy. Matt asked for a Minecraft figurine and candy. He is really into Minecraft which is an xBox game that he loves.

Last weekend we actually celebrated by going to Memphis to eat dinner at The Side Porch, our favorite.  Afterwards we went to another one of our favorites, Barnes and Noble. McKenzie and I of course had to get something at Starbucks while we looked at books and magazines.  I hate I didn't take any pictures from the night but we had an awesome time! We celebrated early since this afternoon David and Matt wanted to go the last DSU home basketball game.  I know they will have a great time.

Speaking of basketball, Matt only has one more Upwards game. We are sad to see it end.  It has been a great season with a great team. David was able to coach and take a few pictures from last night's game. We won 48-40. Here are a few pictures from the game.

Valentine's Day

It is already February and I couldn't wait to decorate for Valentine's Day. I was in Target a few weeks ago and picked up a few new things for our house. It's something about this time of year that I want to clean and redecorate! I re-purposed a rosebud heart wreath that I have probably had for 20 years. I took it to the Flower Company here in town and she sprayed it and brought it back to life. I picked out ribbon and she fixed it up really cute.

At the back door, I used my love banner and I found this cute doormat at Target. Inside the laundry room as you come in the back, I used this  heart wreath and door hanger that I also bought at Target. The wreath is made of stuffed hearts. So cute!

I added a few other things that I use year after year throughout the house. Here are a few pictures...
