Trick-or-Treat!

Matt and McKenzie always have so much fun dressing up and going trick-or-treating and then handing out candy at home.  This year Matt was Captain America and McKenzie was Katy Perry.

Our first stop was at our former neighbors' house, the Byrds.  It's always so good to go back and see them.

You can tell the kids are comfortable there!

After trick-or-treating in our neighborhood, we came home and the kids had a ball handing out candy.

More Halloween Decorations...

We are flying through October. Halloween is next week and we are ready for some fun. Well, the kids have their costumes, I just have to go to Walmart and buy a ton of candy we will need for our many trick or treaters. We really enjoy Halloween in our neighborhood.

I'm linking up with Inspired Room's fall nesting party. You can read her post on holiday nesting then see the other ideas people are sharing on her blog.

I wanted to share a few more pictures from our home.
It was time to throw away the kimberly queen ferns so I replaced them with these beautiful pumpkins from Mid South Produce here in town. I can use these pumpkin urns through Thanksgiving.

A favorite fall snack...yum!

Matt and I have been reading some of our favorite Halloween books.

The kids enjoy decorating their rooms.

A few more touches here and there...

Band Night

Monday night was McKenzie's first Band Night. We really enjoyed getting to see her band as well as the 7th, 8th and high school bands. It's quite a sight to see 650 kids spread out across the field at the end of the program. Each band played a few songs. The high school band opened up the night with their show. It was wonderful. Next the seventh grade band performed followed by the eighth grade band. It brought back a lot of memories for me because years ago I was a part of Band Night from 7th-12th grades. It's neat to see my daughter enjoying it as well! It's amazing what her band has learned in a few short weeks. God bless her sweet director, Kim Presley! I can't imagine listening to 48 clarinet players every afternoon for an hour. Mrs. Presley said that this is her largest clarinet section ever. The sixth grade band played a song that they have been working on. At the end of the night all the bands played the school fight song, "Anchors Away". It was so funny, the sixth graders would join in on a note here and there that Mr. Rodgers had taught them. We didn't get pictures because of David's knee/crutches situation but he did get one before we left of her in her band uniform and a video of her band. Way to go, McKenzie!!

Yes, I realize I'm old

"Yes, I realize I'm old."  That has been my usual answer to the inevitable question most people have asked me when they found out I hurt my knee playing basketball with my 17 year old nephew - "Don't you know you're too old to be doing that?".  A few weeks ago, I was playing basketball with Caleb and his friend Cole when I made a cut -- well, most of me made a cut -- my lower left leg decided it would go left while the rest of me went right.  The result was a torn meniscus and a torn MCL ligament.  Even Betty joined in the abuse.  She told me, "You need to save whatever you have left for your own children!".  I'm sorry, I refuse to be put out to pasture just yet!  I enjoy sports and I hope to keep playing as long as I can.  Maybe I'll compromise and play a little slower.

I ended up having surgery last Wednesday and have been home recovering since then.  My mother told me, "You'd think that someone who was laying around the house all day would update their blog already!".  OK, Mom, here it is!

Betty has been a good nurse and I am doing well.  The doctor has moved me from my immobilizer brace to a hinged brace and said I can start putting some weight on my leg as I walk with crutches so I'll be going back to work next week.

Betty has had to drive me around.  She said she feels like she has a third kid.  Like she didn't feel that way already!

Matt has enjoyed being moved to the back of the car.

Here's the knee at physical therapy.  I'll spare you any gorier pictures.

Nick took a liking to my immobilizer brace.

He also took a liking to me working from home this week.  He spent most of each day laying in my lap while I worked.  He's going to miss me Monday!

Everyone has been so good to me since the surgery.  Of course, Betty is number one taking care of me with such patience.  The rest of my family and friends have been sending emails, cards, and texts checking on me and also sending cakes, pies, and cookies to make sure my repaired knee gets a good workout by carrying a few extra pounds!

OK, Mom, there's your update!  Now please send another yummy apple pie!!!!

Fall Decorations/Pumpkin Patch Visit

I really enjoy decorating this time of year. I probably love it more than Christmas decorating. I am so addicted to mums, pumpkins and scarecrows. They all make me happy. So as soon as October rolled in I started putting out my fall/Halloween stuff out. I have added a few new things this year, but most are the same. Enjoy the pictures and then David is going to write about our Cedar Hill Farm visit we took today with McKenzie and Matt.   Happy Fall!!

Welcome to our home...

Our mailbox...

Back door owl to greet us...

Mums:)))))

McKenzie and Matt scarecrows I found at Walmart...

My new Halloween wreath...

This is not a decoration, but I finally got around to ordering that cute rolling chair for the kids' new desk. I found it on Walmart.com.

I found this cute lantern back in September during a TJmaxx visit. It has a battery operated candle that flickers. I love it. It looks great on the new kitchen table.

I even decorated the laundry room with these cute battery operated candles. I do spend alot of time in here!

Hello!  David here.  We decided to make our annual trip to Cedar Hill Farm, or "the punkin patch" as Matt calls it, this Saturday since I will be incapacitated for the next 6 to 8 weeks due to my knee surgery coming up next week.  We were hoping for good weather and it turned out to be great!  It was overcast in Grenada but when we go to Cedar Hill Farm it was just partly cloudy and cool.  It started raining after we left so it was perfect timing for us.

Here's the 2012 version of our Cedar Hill picture.  I even got Nick in the picture this year!

After the picture we went to check on Andy....  :)

The kids acted up a little bit so we had to put them in time out.

We rode the train, played on the playground, and rode on a hayride out to the pumpkin patch to check out the pumpkins.

I'm the king of the world!

The kids picked out their pumpkins and we called it a day at the punkin patch.  It was a good way to kick off the holiday season.  Betty goes nuts over the holidays and she's passed it on to our kids.  It makes the holidays even more enjoyable!
