Basketball

We are about half way through the Upward Basketball season.  Matt's favorite sport is basketball and he is doing really well.  His favorite NBA team is the Memphis Grizzlies and we were able to pick our team name and make us the Jr. Grizzlies.  We're really enjoying the season and wish it wouldn't be over so soon!  Here are some pictures from Matt's game tonight.

Be Mine

Valentine's Day is right around the corner. I love to put out a few things around the house and also love putting something on the front door and mailbox. I looked on Etsy for a new Valentine's wreath but they were all so expensive I just used the same Love banner I have used for a few years. It's cute! When I was at Target this past Saturday, I found the cutest movie night snack pack for Matt's teacher, Mrs. Keys for Valentine's Day. Matt picked out these NBA valentines for his class, too.  Here are a few pictures...

Here is Matt at Dr. Armstrong's office. He is doing well but we wanted to take him to get some help for a problem he started having while playing basketball. He will play for awhile then lose his breath. It happened three times this past Friday night. The exact same thing would happen to McKenzie when she played basketball a few years ago.  Dr. Armstrong calls it Exercise Induced Asthma. He gave us an inhaler for Matt to use before he plays. The inhaler worked well for McKenzie so I am hoping it does the same for him. The cold weather just makes this worse. Poor thing.  After we left the dr.'s office I texted David to meet us at McDonalds for lunch. Matt was so excited about this since he was missing a little more of his school day. After we ate our early lunch,  I took him to school. It was nice having him home with me this morning. Matt enjoyed the late start to his day as well!

GMS 7th Grade Beauty Review

This afternoon at 4:00 was McKenzie's 7th grade beauty review. She did a great job and made Top 10! Congrats, McKenzie we are so proud of you!  She had so much fun getting all dolled up for it. Jordan did her hair and makeup and a big thank you to her for doing a great job. Also, a big thanks to all of our family for coming to cheer her on. Here are a few pictures from the day...

Eye Appt. & Upwards 2014

Friday was a good day. We got up early and headed to Jackson for McKenzie's yearly visit with her eye doctor. Her appointment went well, in fact Dr. Mungan said her eyes were doing really well. The tests are always a little uncomfortable but she did well. It's hard to believe that we having been going there 10 years. She looked so big sitting in that chair.

After we left the dr.'s office we had a little time before lunch, so we stopped my Target. I mainly wanted to go and see if they had put out any cute Valentine's decorations, which they did! I ended up getting this cute banner for McKenzie's room. It is made with different colored felt hearts, grograin ribbon and pink heart clips.  Also, I have been looking everywhere for something cute to put  her jewelry on. They had a good selection of jewelry trees. McKenzie picked this one. I love how it turned out!

We began our Upward Basketball games last night. This is Matt's third year to play basketball. He had so much fun! We have a good little team this year. They actually started practices before Thanksgiving so he has been loving that. David is his coach and our team name is the Grizzlies. I will try and post some pictures throughout the season.

Chess

Matt was introduced to chess in LEAP at school a couple of months ago.  He loved it immediately and has been playing and learning it ever since.  I have played with him a lot and given him some pointers here and there.  Mr. Beane, who is teaching chess to the LEAP students, has started a Grenada Chess Club and Matt was eager to join.  They had their first meetings during the Christmas holidays and Matt has had a ball!  He's doing really well and is really excited about it.  Here are some pictures from the first couple of meetings we've been to.

This is a set that Mr. Glenn from Eupora gave Matt and McKenzie for Christmas.  He made it himself, including all of the pieces that are magnetized so they stick to the board!

Matt was in demand and ended up playing two kids at once!
